Stuck Improving Coaching Intensive

Focus: Develop and Implement race-conscious inquiry cycles
Audience: School-based teams and practitioners

School-based team development and coaching intensives support practitioners in their effort to create actual change in a school or education setting. This by application only professional development offers select schools intensive racial equity improvement experiences that begins with forming a racial equity ambassadors team and ends with that team leading the implementation of a full-scale school-wide race-conscious inquiry cycle.

  • Year 1 – Team capacity and identifying racial problems of practice
  • Year 2 – Team-based race-conscious inquiry cycle implementation
  • Year 3 – Whole school race-conscious inquiry cycle implementation

 

This offering provides schools with 90-minute in-person monthly professional development for racial equity teams, four 60-90 minute all staff meetings (presenting back out to colleagues), two 60-minute planning meetings per month (coaching sessions)–leadership team, and two in person full day racial equity ambassador retreats. The package also includes up to 6 hours of one-on-one as needed coaching.

Stuck Improving Learning Communities

Focus: Develop race-conscious inquiry teams
Audience: School-based teams and practitioners, District leadership teams, up to 40 people per learning community (5-7, five person teams)

6 – 10 session over a 7 – 10 month period (one academic year)

The Stuck Improving Learning Community model develops the capacity of school and district level teams to facilitate change in their school settings. Designed with advanced educators and racial equity advocates in mind, learning communities offer year-long professional development experiences that combine numerous services into a powerful planning and strategy experience that prepares teams to facilitate the transformation of their communities of education practice. Institutes are offered twice per year, virtually and in-person.

Stuck Improving Book Studies

Focus: Understand key ideas
Audience: School-based teams and practitioners, district leadership teams, individuals, parent groups, and students

Duration: 6 90-minute to 2-hour sessions over 6 weeks to 6 months

The Stuck Improving Book Studies bring educators together to explore the key ideas and themes reflected in the book Stuck Improving: Racial Equity and School Leadership. The book study is guided by an experienced facilitator and consists of 90-minute to 2-hour sessions that offer a combination of pre-session work, whole group conversation, breakout discussion, and self-reflective writing. Participation includes access to downloadable study guides, visualizations, and online community platforms.

Stuck Improving Workshops

Audience: School-based teams and practitioners, district leaders, individuals, parent groups, and students

Duration: 2 – 6 hour one time session


Our talented team of educators offer a variety of “Getting Past Stuck” workshops to groups of up to 50 participants. The first two sessions “Getting Past Stuck: Understanding the Capacity Required to Engage in Racial Equity Improvement Work” and “Exploring Organizational Racial Resources for Improvement” introduce key ideas and themes from Stuck Improving: Racial Equity and School Leadership. Workshops provide a range of interactive learning activities that help participants get past stuck in their racial equity improvement efforts. Sessions can be delivered in 3 – 6 hour time frames. No prior engagement with the book is required to gain from the workshop experience.

Stuck Improving Keynotes

I have delivered over 100 keynotes to help audiences understand school improvement practices, race-conscious inquiry-based leadership strategies, and instructional approaches. My ultimate mission is to improve educational experiences and outcomes for Black and Brown school-aged students. Racial Equity Capacity Diagnosis – Where is your organization’s most strategic takeoff point for advancing your racial equity improvement work? A Racial Equity Capacity Diagnosis for Organizations Review is a critical first step. The process guides school and district teams through a systematic process of understanding their organizations relative racial equity strengths and areas for growth. It supports the organization’s ability to implement and sustain racial equity improvements.

Mentorship

Whether it’s using baseball and softball to teach life lessons, mentoring young men of color who aspire to enter education, or advising graduate students through the arduous journey of completing a doctoral dissertation, I pride myself on providing mentorship.
